Workington Hall tower house and later medieval fortified house, Workington - Cumberland Council (UA)

Medieval tower house, expanded and enlarged, most recently in the eighteenth century. A decision to de-roof the building and consolidate it as a ruin was taken in the 1970s. In the past decade it has seldom been accessible to the public and maintenance has declined. Recent repairs have addressed major masonry and roof issues, and a large-scale project to repair the east side of the complex has just been completed with funding from Historic England. Woody vegetation remains established in other parts of the masonry and a further phase of work is planned for late September 2023.
