Bennerley Viaduct, Awsworth Road (part located in Erewash Borough), Awsworth - Broxtowe / Erewash

An exceptional iron railway viaduct,1878-9 c.500m long. Disused and unmaintained for decades. An application to the National Heritage Lottery Fund in 2017 for repairs and a pathway across the viaduct was unsuccessful. Historic England awarded a grant in early 2019; development work and essential repairs followed in 2019 and 2020. Work temporarily stopped due to Covid-19. Historic England Heritage Stimulus funding enabled the reinstatement of parapets. Remedial re-pointing is to be undertaken in summer 2023. The western approach has been reinstated and the viaduct has been decked.
