Former Mecca Bingo, 161-169, Essex Road N1 - Islington
Built as the Carlton Cinema in 1930 by George Coles, previously a bingo hall and now used as a place of worship by Resurrection Manifestations. The Egyptian-style facade is decorated with multi-coloured faience while the rest is yellow stock brick under a slated roof. The church has temporary consent for use of the building and for division of the main auditorium. A first phase of renovation and repair was completed in 2013, but there is evidence of damage to the faience tiles. Proposals for repair and re-use are being explored in discussion with the Local Authority and Historic England.
