Adcote and adjoining Forecourt Walls, Little Ness - Shropshire (UA)
Adcote Hall was designed by Norman Shaw and built in 1876-81 for Mrs Rebecca Darby of the Coalbrookdale Ironmasters' family. Regarded as one of the finest houses of Shaw's maturity, it has been a girls' school since 1927. An asymmetrical composition of ashlar sandstone walls, straight gables, soaring red brick chimney stacks and expansive mullion and transom windows, most of the plain clay tile roof coverings, lead gutter linings and cast-iron rainwater goods appear to be original and are now in urgent need of renewal. Assorted structural defects in several locations also need to be addressed.
