Westgate Hill Cemetery, Newcastle upon Tyne - Newcastle upon Tyne

Opened 1829, Westgate Hill is one of the earliest garden cemeteries in England and the earliest in the North East. Despite having lost its chapel, and the original layout being obscured by vegetation, the character of the site remains legible. Current problems include invasive weeds and scrub, vandalism, anti-social behaviour and minimal management. A Conservation Management Plan is now in place for the site and a 12 month project co-funded by Historic England and Newcastle City Council will engage with local communities to create a safe, accessible and used green space.
