Mentmore Towers, Mentmore / Cheddington - Buckinghamshire (UA)

Sir Joseph Paxton designed this largest of the Rothschild family houses in a prominent position in the Vale of Aylesbury, with formal gardens and park to complement it and a contemporary Arts and Crafts estate village. Sold in 2000, permission was sought to convert the house into a hotel and conference centre. With the estate ownership fragmented, much of the park converted to golf, and new development proposals a Landscape & Conservation Area Appraisal funded by Historic England and completed in 2020 assesses the significance, fabric, character and setting of Mentmore to inform decisions.
