The Lansdowne Monument, Calne Without - Wiltshire (UA)

Obelisk constructed in 1845 by Sir Charles Barry for the 3rd Marquess of Lansdowne in memory of Sir William Petty, ancestor of the Petty-Fitzmaurice family. The condition of this monumental local landmark is in decline due to the effect of weathering on the stonework. Planning Permission and Listed Building Consent to maintain the temporary protection were granted in March 2020 on a temporary basis for five years. The National Trust are developing proposals for the repair of the monument. Project development work to inform its repair is underway partly funded by Historic England.
