Church of St John the Baptist, Melbourn Street, Royston - North Hertfordshire

Originally church of Augustinian Priory, founded second half C12, converted to parish church post-Dissolution. C13 nave and aisles, C16 west tower, C19 chancel and east end of south aisle. Nave re-roofed early C16. C15 carved stone figures of St Thomas Becket and Madonna and Child. Richly carved C15 wood pulpit and lectern. C18 and C19 wall monuments, including carved monument 1732 and monument of 1834 with marble open book. Works to repair the damage caused by a fire have now completed. However, the church suffered storm damage to the tower, repairs for this are due to finish by Autumn 2023.
