St Andrew, Church Road

St Andrew, Church Road, Holme Hale, Norfolk IP25 7DR

Parish church dated to 13th century. The west tower of 4 stages plus parapets, clasped by paired right-angle buttresses up to belfry level, is indeed grand and dates from a rebuild in the mid-15th Century. It is in line with nave and chancel, with an aisle and porch on the north side but no aisle on the south side. The nave features a 4-bay arcade of the early 14th Century and an arch-braced roof set above single hammer-beams which carry angels. All other roofs date from the 19th Century. But there survives hidden evidence of the earlier building: a round-headed arch over an upper doorway in the west nave wall visible from inside the tower.
