Description

The project was started by the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England, following a pilot study in 1998, and was continued by English Heritage, concluding with the publication 'English shops and shopping', by Kathryn A Morrison. English Heritage staff photographed significant or typical sites to show the development of shopping architecture, including medieval market places, specialist 18th and 19th century shops, department stores, multiples and out of town shops.
