Description

This research project, conducted 2004-2007, formed part of Research and Standards Group's contribution to the Historic Environment of Liverpool Project (HELP). It was one of six projects, each designed to lead to publication of a book in the 'Informed Conservation' series. Activities included documentary research and fieldwork related to the development and character of charitable and institutional buildings in Liverpool. The principal researchers were Dr Ian Goodall and Colum Giles, the principal photographer was Peter Williams, and graphic illustrations were prepared by Allan T Adams. The archive related to the project is not site-related: no building records were created, although publication photography resulted in some hundreds of images being accessioned to the archive. The project's primary product is the book 'Building a better society: Liverpool's historic institutional buildings' by Dr Ian Goodall, due to be published in 2009.
