The former County Gaol in the grounds to rear of Police Station. The gaol was originally built in 1754 and enlarged in 1815 and 1843. Very long 3 storey range with higher polygonal tower attached to rear. The third wing of the T-shaped building has now been demolished. Red rubble walls with ashlar window dressings. Slate roofs. Gable end parapets with kneelers. Polygonal cap to tower with deep eaves.

Sash windows to left with glazing bars under stone voussoir lintels (mostly cambered).

Shorter windows to right. Gable end to west has 3 tall round headed windows with stone and brick surrounds. Side walls of polygonal tower have 4 light windows with stone mullions and sill band.

Somerset and Bath Constabulary Headquarters and Block 'B' to south-east form a group.
