12/327 Gateway about 25m south-west of The Doctor's Old House -

GV II

Gateway. Early C19. Ham stone ashlar. Square piers abort 3 m tall; moulded plinth, 2 fielded panels on roadside faces, plain friezes, cornice mould caps with step and shallow pyramid tops; panelled timber gates between: extending from piers in concave quarter-circles are ashlar wing walls about 2.75 at high, with thin angled copings, merging into slightly lower rubble walls on each side. An important element in the setting of The Doctor's Old House (qv) and the streetscene.
