WINKLEIGH WINKLEIGH SS 6308 11/193 Nine Beeches II House formerly vicarage. Built 1828 by J Western. Rendered walls. Hipped slate roof. Central axial rendered brick stack, brick stack at rear axial to service range.
Plan: double depth plan with central entrance hall leading to stairs, principal rooms to the front and left, possible kitchen to rear at right and service range at right-hand end in 2 storey lean-to.
Exterior: 2 storeys with cellar. Asymmetrical 2-window entrance front with no window to left on ground floor. Original 12-pane sashes with marginal glazing, C20 glazed porch at centre with original 6-panel door behind. 2 storey lean-to against right-hand end, also with original sashes, through without marginal glazing. Garden front to left is symmetrical with 2 windows of similar 12-pane marginal glazing. Garden front to left is symmetrical with 2 windows of similar 12-pane marginal glazed sashes on 1st floor and 2 original canted bay windows below - the right-hand one retains its original sashes, those to the left-hand one are facsimiles. The rear elevation has a original 2 storey bow to the right with contemporary sash windows, to its left is tall stair window with marginal glazing. Beyond that is another 12-pane sash on the 1st floor, Victorian Conservatory below it.
Interior: inaccessible at time of survey but believed to contain fairly complete original joinery including staircase with stick balusters and wreathed handrail.
