Chimney stack. Late C18- early C19. Restored 1965-69. Gritstone rubble.

Circular, approximately 3 metres in diameter at base, approximately 5 metres high, reduced in width about half-way up and with a projecting coping. An opening at the base on the north side was originally covered by the flue from the furnaces on lower ground. The flue and mill remain as earthworks only. The chimney was built originally to serve the lead mining industry, the flue acting as a cooling chamber from which lead could be removed, and to create an effective draught. In 1795 zinc ore was mined nearby and was roasted and calcined at the mill, this industry flourishing between 1800 and 1830. An important structure linked with a lost industry of the moor area. A.
