ELLESMERE RURAL C.P. WELSH FRANKTON SJ 33 SE 8/176 Oak House - - II Farmhouse. Early C17 with later additions and alterations. Timber framed with painted brick infill, largely clad and rebuilt in painted brick; slate roofs. Basic L-plan comprising long hall range of baffle- entry type (remodelled in late C18) with gabled cross-wing projecting to right. 2 storeys with dentilled eaves cornice to hall range. Framing: vertical posts and 2 horizontal members survive to front gable which also has collar and tie beam truss with upper and lower collars and V-struts from former. Small rectangular panels with middle rails to right return; rendered to left. Hall range has segmental-headed C19 casements to left and left of centre on first floor, former with leaded lights. 16-paned glazing bar sash directly below eaves to right of centre. Wide mid-C20 casement to ground floor on left with 25-paned glazing bar sash directly below first-floor sash window. First floor of cross-wing has 16-paned glazing bar sash in moulded wood surround supported by possibly C17 carved brackets; tri- partite glazing bar sash in similar surround without brackets directly below. Open-pedimented brick porch to hall range in angle with cross- wing has boarder door and semi-circular fanlight. Red brick ridge stack directly above has dentilled band to top of base and 3 attached and rebated shafts. Various C19 additions attached to left and rear. Interior. Not inspected but likely to be of interest.
