The houses on Dover House Road form part of the Dover House Estate, one of the London County Council cottage estates inspired by the Garden City movement. In 1919 land was purchased to provide accomodation for soldiers returning from the First World War. These 'Homes Fit for Heroes' met the standards set out in the recently published Housing Act (1919). The design of the estate was influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement and incorporated communal green spaces and allotments.
