Newarke Wall (Along north west end of Gardens of Newarke Houses Museum), the Newarke - Leicester, City of (UA)

Wall, c1423, which formed the boundary of St Mary-de-Castro and The Newarke. Coursed stone with ramp coping. Approximately fifteen feet high. Stone walling has suffered slow decay over many years - there has been significant weathering of walling material and dressings. Deterioration has been exacerbated by past inappropriate repairs including cement based pointing mortars. There is potentially damaging woody rooted plant growth also. Leicester City Council are responsible for undertaking repairs. Funding is currently targeted at higher priority repair work elsewhere in the city.
