Church of St Matthew, St Matthew's Avenue, Surbiton - Kingston upon Thames

Designed by CL Luck in Gothic style and built in1875. It has a square tower crowned with a tall octagonal stone spire. The spire and tower suffered from erosion of stone and pointing, and rusting of embedded ironwork had resulted in cracking of stone. The mullions to the belfry openings had to be strapped temporarily due to loss of stone. Repairs to the tower, spire and belfry openings were completed in 2019, grant aided by the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Priority maintenance works to some roofs and stonework were carried out in 2021 but permanent repairs to the roofs are still required.
